Mill Festival in Labbus, Whit Monday, May 20, 2024

The Labbus Mill Association is currently planning the 16th edition of the big mill festival at the Whit Monday, 20 May 2024 around the historic windmill .
Last year, after the completion of the major restoration project in summer 2022, we were able to celebrate the mill festival under rotating wings for the first time. The mill offers a great backdrop for the relaxed and family atmosphere of the mill day, which has now become a tradition in Sulingen. This year we would like to build on the great success of last year.
The mill festival in Labbus has been held since 2007 as part of German Mill Day. Traditionally, on Whit Monday, more than 1,000 historic mills across the country open their doors. The German Society for Mill Science and Mill Preservation (DGM) eV and its state and regional associations invite you to German Mill Day. On this special day, the country's numerous wind and water, steam and motor mills turn their wings and water wheels. The mill operators start up the grinding gears and give those interested in mills a deeper insight into the cultural asset of the mill and the old milling craft.
There are still places available for exhibitors and artisans at our arts and crafts and farmers market. The details for exhibitors can be found here and the poster can be used as PDF or JPG can be downloaded. Please register.

Sulingen – “What can I say – great!” This was the assessment of Helmut Hansing, 1st Chairman of the Labbus Mill Association, about the mill festival around the Labbus windmill on Monday.
For the first time, the building was presented at the Mill Festival with rotating blades, which, according to Hansing, were festively decorated with a bunting, as is usual with mills. However, he would have liked a little more wind, because "it's not enough for grinding."
However, he was able to report growth in all areas: "We have easily reached the peak of 2,000 to 2,500 visitors." This is also reflected in the mill: In the past, he was able to explain the technology to visitors on his own, but this time - in addition to the tours for the deaf by Carsten Lucht - there is a miller from the association on every level inside to answer questions. "The mill is really full, there is huge interest."

Sulingen – The non-profit association for the promotion and preservation of the Labbus windmill had invited people to an “open day” as part of the German Mill Day, and the guests did not need to be asked twice: hundreds of visitors flocked to the site of the cultural monument in the Sulingen town of Labbus on Whit Monday.
As usual, the organizers had provided a varied supporting program: Pastor Ansgar Stolte and lector Christa Funck organized an ecumenical prayer to kick things off. Other attractions included a vintage car show, activities for children, and a small farmers' and crafts market, where ten exhibitors offered handicrafts, honey, and plants for sale.
The focus of interest was the extensive renovation work that has been ongoing since 2017. "We are pleased that the end is within reach," said Aileen Hansing, first miller of the 105-member association: "The gallery and piano will be installed at the end of June."...

Sulingen – The parked cars, including some from neighboring districts, show it from afar on Whit Monday: The 13th Mill Festival of the Association for the Promotion and Preservation of the Windmill in the Sulingen town of Labbus is once again receiving a great response. Word has long since gotten around that the event, which is part of the nationwide Mill Day, with games and activities for the little ones, market stalls, live music and tasty treats, is a worthwhile destination for a trip with the whole family. “It feels like there is even more going on than last year,” says “leisure miller” Helmut Hansing happily in the afternoon, who has just treated himself to an ice cream – and is now taking over from his wife Aileen Hansing in explaining the technology of the gallery-Dutch windmill built in 1851 to groups of visitors.
Aileen Hansing briefly looks at her digital pedometer: 10,725. She had already walked a few of them before the event began, she admits with a smile. The ecumenical open-air service...
