Construction phase 2: Wing and gallery

During the second construction phase, the mill blades, which were removed at the end of 2012, were refurbished and reinstalled and the gallery was rebuilt. After this construction phase is complete, the external appearance of the mill has been restored and the wind technology is fully functional.

The Labbus windmill was already equipped with louvre blades before the 1940s. In contrast to conventional sail blades, the louvre technology is designed in such a way that the flaps are pushed open in strong gusts of wind and automatically close again when the wind subsides, in order to enable the mill to run at a constant speed and to protect against stronger gusts of wind. When the blades were restored, the existing louvre technology was largely reused.

The gallery, which gives the mill its name "Galerieholländer", had to be removed in 2006 due to dilapidation. Until recently, it was a purely wooden construction, which over the decades only underwent changes in the area of the railing.
